About the role | Mō tēnei tūranga mahi

We have a position available on our community mobile respite team, based at the Birmingham Dr office. You’ll be reporting to the Team Coach and working with Support Workers who all share a common purpose to support people experiencing mental illness.

Hours or work are:

16 hours weekly – Sunday and Monday from 1.30pm to 10.00pm. Immediate start.

As a Support Worker on the Community Team, you might be kept busy supporting people with budgeting and independent daily living skills or attending appointments and advocating for people. You might be assisting people to connect with their communities. You’ll need to be prepared to support our people by doing whatever it takes - cleaning, cooking, gardening, or helping with everyday household tasks.

We are interested to hear from people who have a caring nature and work in a recovery focused way, you will be able to provide medication support for our people when needed and have impeccable attention to detail. Ideally, you’ll have some knowledge around community support and how to navigate and access external services for the people we support.

We are looking for down-to-earth people who have a good sense of humour, integrity, honesty, reliability, and flexibility.

  • You must have previous experience supporting people in their own homes/community setting, and the mental health and addictions sector.
  • You must hold New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (NZCHW) or a recognised equivalent.
  • You must also hold a current full driver’s license.
  • You must have a current first aid certificate
  • Have knowledge of, and demonstrable commitment to, the principles of the Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • As a team member you can appreciate the opinions of others.
  • You are a great listener, the sort of person who will listen deeply to the people who use our servicesYou are a fresh thinker, using curiosity and imagination to generate new ideas
  • You are energising, inspiring others with enthusiasm and a take action approach
  • You are a communicator, the sort of positive person who loves working with people
